The Sugar, Quartering, and Stamp Acts
Sugar Act...
In the year 1764, a new act was created. This act consists on putting duties on mollases, which is a thick syrup produced durring the refining of sugar. Since the colonists didnt want to pay any kind of taxes, they evaded them. Colonists had been required to pay a tax of six pence per gallon on the importation of foreign molasses. They assigned officers courts to persue smuglers. Later on, they reduced the amount from six pence per gallon to three pence per gallon.
Quartering Act...
In 1765, another act was created, this was the quartering act. This act provided housing and supplies for the British troops. Since the British troops took care of the colonists, they thought they deserved shelter. At first the colonists went with the act, but after a period of time, colonists found this somewhat disturbing so they started to rebel. In March durring the same year, Parliment passes Bill to earn from the taxes the colonists payed.
Stamp Act...
Later on, the Stamp Act was created, which required that everything printed had a stamp. Including deeds, newspaper, books, contracts, quartering documents, everything that was printed. For the colonists this was a problem because they used printed things daily. They couldnt have fun anymore with their playing cards because of the idea they had payed a tax for this. Even though colonists would NOT accept taxes in any way they came, George Grenville thought they would.
